Medics get a Facelift!

The Station Medical Centre (SMC) recently got a facelift in the form of a much needed new reception.

The New Reception Build, which was officially unveiled on Friday, 6th February, had been eagerly awaited by SMC staff, and was designed with a number of improvements to service in mind. Practice manager, FS Kerry  Finlay, who oversaw the project from start to finish, said: “Although never compromised, confidentiality and physical security were always a matter of concern with our old setup, which to be honest was no more than a desk in the corridor. The receptionist lacked administrative support and we had to split the administrative function between our reception desk and an office upstairs. Situated in the old waiting room, our new Reception has allowed us to relocate our Admin Officer and her staff downstairs; our new reception desk runs across the front of the new office.”

The new set up also comes with other added benefits. While the old reception area has been turned into one of two separate waiting rooms, the office behind the new waiting room has now been utilised as a ‘Choose &  Book’ admin office, allowing patients the requisite ease and privacy in which to identify medical appointments available on the NHS, at a time and place suitable to them. While the privacy of the new office affords patients  the necessary confidentiality, its location off the waiting room will save both patients and staff time. On attending the SMC, patients are required to report to reception where they will be directed to one of two waiting rooms, which serve two and three clinic rooms respectively. Visitors, as well as patients, are required to report to reception on arrival at the SMC.

Speaking after officially opening the new reception, OC Training and Support Sqn, Sqn Ldr Andy Callander said: “The new reception has been purpose built with a view to improving service, and I believe it will successfully fulfil both patient and staff expectation.” FS Finlay added: “I think I speak on behalf of all the staff, when I say that we now have a professional setup that we can be rightly proud of. We are really pleased with the result of the new build, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, who have all worked very hard to rearrange the various work spaces, and further improve the service we deliver.”
